Making effective use of the very same ingredients that made its predecessor a surprise success, The Mummy Returns is a worthy follow-up to that brings slight improvements in almost all filmmaking departments to provide its viewers another hell of a rollicking adventure that stays true to the original while also being more entertaining this time. Set 10 years after the events of the first film, the story of The Mummy Returns brings back Rick & Evelyn O'Connell, along with their son Alex, against the High Priest Imhotep who has again risen from the dead but this time is looking for the Bracelet of Anubis in order to gain control of The Scorpion King's army, thus once again endangering the.

'The Mummy Returns' is a rambunctious adventure spectacle with its heart and thrills squarely in the right place. Though it is a bit too content to follow the routine blockbuster-sequel template, the follow-up to 1999's fantastic 'The Mummy' provides a worthwhile and exciting experience. Mixing globetrotting adventure, well-placed laughs, large-scale action set-pieces, and good-natured horror thrills, 'The Mummy Returns' finds the heroes of the first film taking on old and new villains.
Throwing in a child, a change of scenery, and a larger-than-life bad guy, the narrative follows a somewhat standard story formula but is still able to move in engaging directions. Director, Stephen Sommers, assembles of high velocity thrill ride with enough texture and heart to make things stick. I didn't love the original, but it was a nice popcorn flick as long as you didn't think too much. A nice balance of action, humor and drama. But in this subpar sequel we get enough cheese to drown Italy with. Feels like the same plot as the first one with a few unfortunate additions. You added a kid to an adventure film.why?
Kids ruin everything, including first dates when you find out she has one. Gotta love the south. Of course the kid is unnaturally intelligent since someone needs to move the 'story' along. In the years since the last film our characters can suddenly kick more ass, just because.
Suddenly goofy Jonathan has better aim than Jean Reno. I've often wondered after numerous watches of both The Mummy and The Mummy Returns why Brendan Fraser hasn't been the go-to-guy for these types of films. He mixes the action and the comic sarcasm better than most and his obvious physical attributes should have made him the Indiana Jones of the new century.
The Mummy Returns
This sequel to the wildly successful film from 1999 leads Fraser and Rachel Weisz once more into harms way, back to Egypt, and more Mummies. With another CGI fest Stephen Sommers brings back O'Connell (Fraser) and his now wife Evelyn (Weisz) and young son Alex for another adventure with the undead of Egypt. It does have the same feel and touch of the first film and even. Neha kakkar new song.
The Mummy Returns loses a lot of what made the original so good, with an over reliance on special effects and too much self referential humour. However, the film does have its memorable moments, most notably the fight with the pigmies in the paradise. However, this is not enough to save it from the god-awful Rock/Scorpion King CG work.
Just does not hold up. Also, the retrofitting of past lives onto the characters is particularly annoying.
Do yourself a favour, just watch the first one again. “You know, a couple of years ago this would have seemed really strange to me.” after the first one surprised me with a surprisingly great production value i went right on to the sequel! I guess the goods are pretty much the same as in The Mummy because it once again looks gorgeous in terms of scenery and set pieces. However, some of the effects (especially towards the end) are pretty awful. I screamed at the scorpion king ok.
But Rachel Weisz and Brendan Fraser are awesome once again and i wish they’d stayed childless because daaaayyuum did i hate their kid. He’s an unnecessary device for the plot to move along and also didnt make for a compelling story. THE MUMMY RETURNS (2001) 'Imhotep is resurrected by an Egyptian cult in order to battle and vanquish The Scorpion King, so he can gain control over the armies of Anubis for world domination. It's up to Rick O'Connell and his wife Evelyn to thwart Imhotep's evil plans while simultaneously rescuing their son.'
The Mummy Returns delivers more of the thrilling fun and visual excitement of its predecessor with more of an emphasis on the lengths we'll go to in order to protect our loved ones. It also delivers another intriguing plot, one more reliant on action tropes and predictability, but one that kept me entertained the whole runtime of the movie. Visually speaking, the movie is spectacular to look at,. The Mummy Returns is way better than I remember it. Just a simple, cartoonish fun, family-friendly adventure movie with good action choreography (though the editing leaves a little to be desired). Absurd things just constantly happen and then immediately (but knowingly) shrugged off, and the surprisingly good humour even caught me off guard sometimes.
I also forgot Rachel Weisz was in this, and she's great. And of course, I cannot forget to mention the reason I watched this in the first place: The Rock. This is his first movie starring role that I know of, and uh, I guess he's in it?
He shows up for like 10 seconds, immediately dies, then way later gets replaced by a 3D CG.
